Telepathy

Parahumans (Also known as Tomorrow People, Homo Superior or Paranormals) are all born with specific skills that separate them from humans. One of these abilities is Telepathy (also called "Reading"), and is the ability to read and influence the thoughts and minds of other individuals. This is very similar to the cinematic 'Telepathy' often seen in movies, books and other mediums.

There are a few sub-powers that fall under the definition of telepathy.

  • Reading Emotions
  • Reading Minds
  • Reading Memories
  • Blocking Telepathy

All telepaths have the ability to do all of these things, however some are more complicated than others and may require more concentration until the telepathy truly hones their skills.

Reading Emotions

The parahuman can read the emotions of an individual. The parahuman can only detect the emotions the subject is experiencing at the moment. Stronger parahumans can also tell how strong they are and their focus.

  • 0 or 1 Successes (Marginal Success) - Can read the current surface emotion, not the reason.
  • 2 or 3 Successes (Minor Success) - Can read the current surface emotion, also may gleam the basic reason.
  • 4 or 5+ Successes (Major Success) - Can read the full emotional state, also may sense why exactly the emotional state is present.

Reading Minds

The parahuman can open a two way conversation between their target and herself.

  • There is no roll necessary if the target is within eye sight.
  • If the target is very familiar to the parahuman, the roll is made with a (0, Extremely Easy) modifier.
  • The the target is of vague familiarity to the parahuman, the roll is made with a (1, Above Average) modifier.
  • If the target is a stranger to the parahuman (but the parahuman knows where to find the target), the roll is made with a (2, Difficult) modifier.
  • If the target is a stranger to the parahuman (but the parahuman does not knows where to find the target), the roll is made with a (4, Extremely Difficult) modifier.

Reading Memories

Through physical contact, the parahuman is able to see recent memories of another.

  • 0 or 1 Successes (Marginal Success) - Only memories from the past week (7 days).
  • 2 or 3 Successes (Minor Success) - Memories from the past month (31 days).
  • 4 or 5 Successes (Major Success) - Memories from the past year.
  • 6 or 7 Successes (Extreme Success) - Memories from the past ten years.
  • 8 or more Successes (Critical Success) - memories from any point in the persons life (within reason).

The term "within reason" means that memories from before someone was old enough to remember cannot be accessed. This means you cannot access memories from when a subject was an infant.

Block Mind

Through deep concentration a parahuman can 'block' telepathy attempts from their mind, rending their thoughts, emotions or memories unreadable. This is the hardest sub-power of telepathy that only the most powerful of telepaths are able to achieve success in. In order for this to be effective one must achieve a Major Success or higher on their roll. IF they succeed, the parahuman targeting them will be overcome by a sharp, piercing pain in their mind.

  • 4 or 5 Successes (Major Success) - The parahuman blocks the incoming attempt. Any attacks after the success must be re-rolled.
  • 6 or 7 Successes (Extreme Success) - The parahuman blocks all incoming attempts for three rounds.
  • 8 or more Successes (Critical Success) - The parahuman blocks all incoming attempts for the full scene.

In the case of rolling against a PC, characters will follow the same challenge rules as all other opposed rolls. Highest success wins.
